Poached pears in syrup

This was a staple dessert growing up.

Soft poached pears stewed in syrup, served with cream or ice cream. If you know me by now you know that I have lots of memories of food by the beach, and we loved this dessert at any time of the day, especially as a treat for afternoon tea.

This age old recipe was how my grandmother made this, and now you can make it too.

I hope you enjoy.

Ingredients

3 big pears or 6 small ones
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup honey
2 cinnamon sticks
1 pint water. Enough to cover your pears as you are going to be poaching them.
1 teaspoons vanilla extract or 1 vanilla bean (optional)

Instructions

1
Peel & slice your pears in half, getting rid of the seeds as you slice them.
2
Heat up sugar, water and honey in a pan until the sugar dissolves, stirring occasionally.
3
Place pears, cinnamon sticks and vanilla in the pan, leaving some breathing room at the top, and let simmer on low heat for 25 minutes or so Until pears are readysoft and a knife can easily go in and out.
4
Allow to cool and store in fridge until ready to serve.
